// PATH OVERVIEW
What this learning path covers
Most fixed broadband still starts on the copper pair installed for the telephone. This path covers that access network end to end: first how the public switched telephone network uses the line to set up, carry and bill a call, then how ADSL shares the same pair to deliver broadband through the DSLAM and the operator's aggregation network.
Prerequisites
- Telecom Fundamentals
Credential
No certification of its own
// COURSES IN THIS PATH
- 01 · PSTN-101Professional
PSTN Fundamentals
How the fixed public switched telephone network carries a voice call from one telephone to another, anywhere in the world. You will learn how subscriber lines, digital exchanges, numbering, signalling and interconnection work together to set up, carry and bill a call.
Intermediate13.5 hours - 02 · DSL-101Professional
ADSL Fundamentals
How broadband reaches homes over the same copper telephone pair that carries a voice call. You will learn how the copper access network, DMT modulation, the DSLAM and PPP sessions work together to turn a telephone line into an always-on internet connection.
Intermediate13.5 hours
// WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
- Explain how a subscriber line connects a telephone to the local exchange and carries a call
- Describe how digital exchanges, numbering and signalling set up, route and bill a call across networks
- Explain how DMT modulation and band plans let voice and broadband share one copper pair
- Describe the DSLAM, the aggregation network and PPP sessions that carry subscriber traffic to the internet
What completing the path earns
The PSTN Fundamentals and ADSL Fundamentals final exams count towards the TelcoSec Telecom Foundations certification.
That certification needs all five Foundations final exams passed (Telecom, PSTN, ADSL, GSM and SIM Cards Fundamentals): 75 questions each, drawn from a bank of 150, with 70% needed to pass.
Access and pricing
Both courses are included in the Professional plan. Courses are taken on the TelcoSec platform after signing in.
