LEARNING PATH :: MOB

Mobile Network
Analyst

How today's mobile networks work, from the radio to the core. Two courses take you through LTE and its evolved packet core, then 5G with NR and the service-based 5G core, and end in the TelcoSec Mobile Network Analyst certification.

// PATH OVERVIEW

What this learning path covers

This path follows a subscriber through the two mobile generations in service today. LTE introduced the all-IP mobile network and the evolved packet core; 5G adds a new radio, NR, and a service-based core built from network functions. Together they explain how a phone attaches or registers, gets a data connection with the right quality of service, keeps it while moving and roams onto other networks.

Prerequisites

  • Telecom Fundamentals
  • GSM Fundamentals

TelcoSec Mobile Network Analyst certification

// COURSES IN THIS PATH

  1. 01 · LTE-101Professional

    LTE Fundamentals

    How the all-IP mobile network of 3GPP Release 8 onwards works, from the radio to the evolved packet core. You will learn why LTE was built, how its radio, channels and protocols carry data, how the core attaches phones and sets up bearers with their quality of service, and how mobility, voice, SMS and LTE-Advanced work on the road to 5G.

  2. 02 · 5G-101Professional

    5G Fundamentals

    How the service-based mobile network of 3GPP Release 15 onwards works, from the NR radio to the 5G core. You will learn why 5G was built, how NR's physical layer and initial access work, how the NG-RAN and the 5G core are put together, how a phone registers and gets PDU sessions with their QoS flows, and how mobility, network slicing, edge computing, roaming and non-terrestrial networks work.

// WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Explain how the LTE radio interface and protocol stack carry user data and signalling
  • Describe the evolved packet core and follow attach, EPS bearer set-up and handover
  • Explain how voice and SMS work on an all-IP mobile network
  • Describe the NR physical layer, initial access and the NG-RAN
  • Explain the service-based 5G core and follow registration, PDU session set-up and QoS flows
  • Describe network slicing, edge computing and 5G roaming

How the certification is earned

Passing the LTE Fundamentals and 5G Fundamentals final exams earns the TelcoSec Mobile Network Analyst certification.

The certification needs both final exams passed: 75 questions drawn from a bank of 150, with 70% needed to pass. Attempts are unlimited, with a 7-day wait between attempts. The module quizzes are practice and do not count.

Access and pricing

Both courses and the certificate are included in the Professional plan. Courses are taken on the TelcoSec platform after signing in.
